Faculty and Staff

Delmar Wolfkill, M.Ed.

I earned my Master's degree at Walla Walla University after receiving my Bachelor's degree at Pacific Union College.  My 14 years of teaching at YACS has shown me that our school constituency and board do a great job supporting the school! They provide for and help with multiple events that help make our school the best in the valley!

God has blessed me with a wonderful family. My wife Karen and I have three grown children and two grandchildren. When I am not working on school related activities, I can be found enjoying activities outdoors, such as mountain biking, running, hiking, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, as well as music and projects at home.

The Ninth and Tenth grade class is so blessed to be able to go on a Mission trip every other year. My students participate in a strongly spiritual program that encourages leadership in a solid, supportive academic program. This is a great place to grow spiritually while honing skills needed to excel in the last half of High School. It is a privilege for me to be part of training students to serve God!

Heidi Ruud, A.s.

Pre-Kindergarten Director

I graduated, in 1996, with a degree in nursing and worked as an RN until I had children. When my children started school, I realized I loved being here at the school and helping in the classrooms. I went back to school to take the education classes I needed to be the Preschool Director when YACS launched the preschool program. I have been teaching now for 9 years. It is so much fun!

My husband, Eric, and I have been married for 32 years. We have two children. Our son, Andy, is 23 and lives in Spokane with his sweet wife, Emma. He is an accountant and Emma is in grad school for physical therapy.  Our daughter, Alyssa, is 19 and is also living in Spokane working as a massage therapist. My family is the joy of my life.

My vision for Pre-K is to prepare kiddos for Kindergarten, but most of all for Heaven. When they leave our program, my goal is for them to be sounding out words, counting to 20 and doing simple addition, introduced to a love of science and social studies, but most of all equipped with a love and friendship with Jesus.

Holly Tanner

Kindergarten Teacher

I am so excited to be the kindergarten teacher again this year at YACS. We are going to have all kinds of fun while we learn to read, work with numbers, and learn about the world around us, all while learning about Jesus and how to be more like Him.

This is my fourth year teaching kindergarten. Before that I taught preschool for 5 years. Prior to working here at the school, I was a stay-at-home mom. I loved being home with my little ones and now I love spending my days with the young students at YACS. I am married to Russ. We have four kids: Aja, Braden, Chase, and Darian. I have lived in the Yakima area most of my life. Most of my family lives nearby and I like that. Holidays and special occasions are always memorable when there is plenty of family to share them with. I like reading, cooking, and playing games with my family. A good hike in the mountains always makes the day better too, especially if there is a lake or waterfall involved. I enjoy being in the beauty of God's nature. It helps me feel peaceful and reminds me how much He truly loves us because He made beautiful things for our enjoyment.

My vision for kindergarten is that it will be a classroom where a love of learning is developed and a love of Jesus is lived.

Silvia Quiroz, B.s.

fIRST AND sECOND gRade Teacher

Hello! My name is Silvia Quiroz and I’m excited to be the 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Yakima Adventist Christian School. I’ve been a 1st and 2nd grade teacher for the last 5 years and I’ve loved every minute I’ve spent working with my students in the classroom.

A little about me, I graduated from Walla Walla University in 2011 with my B.S. in Elementary Education. My first teaching position was spent in a multi-grade level classroom of 5th-8th graders in Southern California. My second year led me to Central California where I taught 1st and 2nd grade.

I was born in California but grew up in Washington and Idaho. I even attended YACS as a student and am excited to be back in the Yakima area.

During my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, our golden retriever, Gunner, and taking trips to see our nephew in Seattle.

I look forward to the new adventures we’ll experience together as a class. I’m excited to learn together and to grow more in Jesus. I can’t wait to get to know all of my students and their families and building our little community. We’re going to have so much fun and I look forward to what God has in store for us this next school year. You are all in my prayers!

Tiffany Waymire, m.a.t.

Third and Fourth Grade Teacher

Hi, my name is Tiffany Waymire. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for most of my life. One of the aspects I enjoy most about our community is the changing of seasons. Summer is fun because it is hot, sunny, and filled with outdoor adventure opportunities. Autumn-spring are great because it is cold and sunny, but more importantly school is in session! I am blessed beyond measure to have a job I look forward to every day!

I am a graduate of Walla Walla University with both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction. In my spare time I enjoy traveling with my husband, spending time with family and friends, reading, and working on a wide variety of “projects” at home and school.

In our class family, we embrace the personality each of us brings to the classroom as we learn academically, and grow socially, physically, and spiritually. I enjoy teaching all subject areas, but my favorites are Bible, math, science, reading, and art. I refer to my scholars as “my kids” because during our time together they each make permanent footprints on my heart. They continually show me new perspectives, share the different faces of God with me, and are a constant reminder of what is truly valuable and important in life.  I consider each of them a priceless treasure!

It is a privilege to say that this will be my fifteenth year as part of the education team at Yakima Adventist Christian School! I look forward to meeting the new, and seeing the returning scholars on campus in August!

Jennifer Leslie, M.Ed.

Fifth and Sixth grade teacher

Hi, I’m Ms. Leslie, and I teach fifth and sixth grades at Yakima Adventist Christian School.  I am going into my seventh year teaching at YACS, and each year is different.  I had an amazing year with my students and I am looking forward to getting to know my new students and their families. More importantly, I am excited to work in a Christ centered environment. I am a member of the 35th church, but Pastor Steve Huey baptized me at ANC in 2013.

I was born in California, but raised in the Yakima Valley.  My dad was in the Marines, which is why I was born on the base in California. I have three beautiful children.  My oldest son, Anthony, is currently a senior at Eastern Washington University. I have one beautiful daughter, Leah, who is going into 8th grade. My daughter loves everything about YACS and looks forward to school every day. My third child, Michael, is going into 3rd grade!

I graduated from Central Washington University in 2008 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. While I was home with my daughter, I decided to work towards my masters. I took online classes through Walden University and graduated with my masters in Elementary Education. After I completed my schooling, I decided to focus on raising my family.  In my heart, I knew a job would always be waiting for me, but my children needed me.  Fortunately, I was blessed with the ability to stay at home with my children. I am extremely grateful that God has brought my family to YACS. Working in an environment that is Christ centered will be such a blessing to my entire family.

Kayla Gonzalez, M.A.

Seventh and Eighth grade teacher

My name is Mrs. Gonzalez, and the 2022-23 school year will be my second year teaching full time at YACS!

I love teaching because I love learning, and I've devoted a lot of my time to my own education. I graduated with my B.A. in English with a Spanish minor from Walla Walla University in 2016, and with my M.A. in English Literature from Andrews University in 2020. Teaching English is an absolute delight of mine, and I’ve taught English in some capacity for the past six years! I also love teaching History, because English and History complement each other so well. Stories are powerful tools—and as Jesus clearly illustrates with his parables, stories inspire empathy!

This year I will once again be the homeroom and Bible teacher for grades 7-8, and the English and History teacher for grades 7-10.

It will probably come as no surprise that I love reading! I also enjoy hanging out with my goofy husband; spending time with my sweet sisters; walking and playing with our silly dog, Daisy, and our fluffy bunny, Hopper Lee; baking and cooking (whenever I find the time); and playing all kinds of board games.

I am so looking forward to our upcoming year together! What a privilege it is to devote our lives to exploring what it means to be human, and how to be more like Jesus: empathetic, understanding, generous, and kind.

Melinda Purviance, B.Ed.

Ninth and Tenth Grade Teacher

Hi there! My name is Melinda Purviance. I am the 7-10 Math, Science, and PE teacher. I also teach Bible to Grades 9-10. Though I recently moved from Alberta, I actually grew up in Yakima! I lived in Yakima for 15 years, attending YACS for Grades 1-10. I absolutely loved my time there! I went to UCA for Grades 11-12, and after graduating, attended WWU for one year. I ended up finishing my teaching degree at Burman University in Alberta, Canada and got a job at the local Adventist high school. I taught Biology, General Sciences, and PE to Grades 11-12 there for seven years. The time finally came to return home, and I accepted the job here at YACS! I’m so excited to be back walking the halls I used to walk as a student. I hope to not only provide quality education, but to help students love YACS as much as I did! I also hope that throughout the year, we will all draw closer to Jesus as we learn more about Him and interact with each other.
